1. Wait the full timer
SMS delivery can take up to a minute during busy times. Pressing resend repeatedly may temporarily block further codes.
2. Check the number format
Enter the number exactly as the app asks — some apps want 03XXXXXXXXX, others want it without the first 0 after +92. A wrong format sends the code nowhere.
3. Check signal and SIM slot
Dual-SIM phones sometimes receive SMS on the other SIM. Make sure the correct SIM is active and has signal.
4. Look in blocked and spam messages
Open your Messages app → ⋮ → Spam & blocked. Some phones also have a 'Promotions' folder.
5. Check DND / promotional SMS blocking
If you have blocked promotional messages with your network, some verification SMS may be affected. Check your network's DND settings.
6. Free your SMS inbox
Older phones stop receiving messages when the inbox is full. Delete old messages.
Network-specific tips (Jazz, Zong, Telenor, Ufone)
Each Pakistani network handles verification SMS slightly differently. General tips that help on all of them:
- Make sure your SIM is biometrically verified — unverified SIMs can have SMS blocked.
- Check you have a positive balance; some old prepaid SIMs stop receiving messages after long inactivity.
- If your SIM was inactive for months, make a call or send an SMS first to reactivate it.
- Restart your phone to reconnect to the network.
If other services' OTPs (like banking apps) also don't arrive, the problem is with your SIM or network, not the game. Contact your network's helpline.
Understanding OTP timing
OTP codes usually expire after a few minutes. If you request a code and wait too long, it becomes invalid even if it arrives. Also, requesting a new code usually cancels the previous one.
| Situation | What to do |
|---|---|
| Code arrived late | Request a fresh code and enter it immediately |
| Received two codes | Use the newest one only |
| Code says 'invalid' | It probably expired — request again |
| Resend button greyed out | Wait for the countdown to finish |
Phone settings that block OTP messages
Default messaging app
If you installed a third-party SMS app, it may filter messages. Check it, or switch back to your phone's default Messages app.
Spam protection
Google Messages and many brand SMS apps have automatic spam filters. Look in the 'Spam & blocked' folder.
Blocked senders
If you once blocked promotional short codes, the OTP sender may be blocked too. Review your blocked list.
Dual SIM data/SMS settings
In Settings → SIM cards, check which SIM is set for SMS.
OTP while abroad
Pakistanis working in the Gulf or elsewhere sometimes keep their Pakistani SIM on roaming. International roaming SMS delivery can be delayed or blocked. Turn on roaming for SMS in your phone settings, and check with your network whether incoming SMS is enabled on your roaming package.
What if you're temporarily blocked?
Pressing 'resend' many times can trigger a temporary limit to prevent abuse. If you see 'too many attempts', stop and wait — often an hour or more. Trying again and again only extends the wait.
The technical path of an OTP: Why it gets lost in transit
When you tap 'Send OTP', a request travels from the game server to an international SMS gateway, then to your mobile network provider (like Jazz, Telenor, or Zong), and finally to your phone. At any point in this complex chain, a delay can occur. In Pakistan, the most common bottleneck is the 'local delivery' stage. During peak hours, such as evenings or national holidays, the mobile networks are flooded with traffic. The network might prioritize voice calls and standard personal SMS over 'Short Code' messages, which are what OTPs use. This is why a code might take five minutes to arrive, or not arrive at all. It is a matter of network congestion, not a fault in the app.
Another issue is the 'Gateway Timeout'. If the international gateway is congested, the request might never even reach Pakistan's borders. If you have tried several times and nothing happens, the problem is likely at this high level. No amount of restarting your phone will fix an international server delay. The best strategy is to stop trying for at least 30 to 60 minutes. This allows the 'queue' of messages to clear out. Often, if you try again late at night or early in the morning, the OTP will arrive in seconds because the network traffic is much lower and the gateways are empty. Patience is often the only real solution to this technical problem.
SMS Center (SMSC) configuration and how to check it
Every SIM card has a hidden setting called the SMS Center number. This is essentially the 'post office' that handles all your incoming and outgoing texts. Sometimes, especially if you have recently switched networks (MNP) or bought a new SIM, this number can be incorrect or outdated. If your SMSC is wrong, you might be able to make calls and use data, but you won't receive any automated messages like OTPs or bank alerts. You can usually find this setting in your Messages app settings under 'More settings', 'Advanced', or 'SMS Center'. It is a critical piece of infrastructure for your phone's messaging capability.
For example, Jazz and Zong have specific SMSC numbers for different regions like Punjab or Sindh. If you suspect this is the problem, you can search for your network's latest SMSC number on their official website and verify it matches what is programmed in your phone. Most people never have to touch this, but if you find that *no* automated messages (from banks, social media, or games) are reaching you, this is almost certainly the culprit. Fixing it can instantly restore your ability to receive verification codes and other critical service messages. It is one of those 'hidden' settings that can cause major headaches if misconfigured.
Impact of network switching (4G to 3G/2G) on SMS
We often want the fastest 4G or 5G signal for gaming, but SMS delivery actually relies on older 2G/3G protocols in many parts of Pakistan. If your phone is 'locked' to 4G-only mode (a setting some people use to get better ping), it might actually be blocking the channel used for incoming SMS. When an OTP is sent, the network often tries to 'page' your phone on the lower frequency bands. If your phone refuses to switch down from 4G because of your manual settings, the SMS fails to deliver and the network eventually gives up after a few attempts. This is a common issue for users who have used 'Force 4G' apps.
Try setting your 'Preferred Network Type' to '2G/3G/4G (Auto)' in your SIM settings. This allows the phone to momentarily drop to a lower band to catch an incoming text message and then jump back up to 4G for data. Additionally, if you are in an area with very poor signal, like a basement or an elevator, try moving near a window or going outside. Even a slight increase in signal strength can be the difference between a successful SMS delivery and a 'timed out' attempt. A single 'bar' of signal is often enough for simple data, but SMS needs a more stable connection to complete the delivery handshake properly.
Corporate and Postpaid SIM restrictions you should know
If you are using a SIM card provided by your employer (a corporate SIM), there may be security filters active on the account level that you are unaware of. Many companies block 'Premium SMS' or 'International Short Codes' to prevent employees from subscribing to paid services or to save on bill costs. Since OTPs are sent through these specific channels, they might be blocked before they even reach your phone. You won't see a 'blocked' notification; the message simply disappears at the network level. This is a very common reason why corporate users struggle with registration.
Similarly, some postpaid plans in Pakistan have default settings that restrict certain types of incoming automated traffic to prevent spam. If you are on a postpaid plan and having trouble, you might need to call your network's helpline (like 777 for Jazz or 310 for Zong) and ask if there are any 'SMS filters' or 'DND (Do Not Disturb)' services active on your line. Ask them specifically if 'Short Code' messages are allowed. Once they remove these restrictions, your OTPs should start arriving normally. It is always recommended to use a personal, biometrically verified SIM for gaming to avoid these professional-level blocks that can be hard to diagnose without a call to the helpline.
Clearing DND filters with your network provider
In Pakistan, the PTA (Pakistan Telecommunication Authority) allows users to block all promotional and marketing SMS by registering for the 'Do Not Disturb' (DND) list. While this is great for stopping spam, it can sometimes be too aggressive and block legitimate service messages, including OTPs from gaming apps. If you have ever sent 'ON' to 3627 or used a similar service, you might have accidentally blocked your verification codes. You can check your status by sending a blank SMS to 3627 or calling your network's helpline. If DND is active, you may need to ask them to 'whitelist' transactional messages while keeping marketing messages blocked.
Furthermore, some networks have their own internal spam filters that trigger if they see multiple identical messages coming to one number in a short time. If you have pressed 'Resend OTP' five times in a row, the network might mark the sender as a spammer and block all further messages to you for 24 hours. If you suspect this has happened, you simply have to wait. There is no way to force the network to unblock the sender immediately. This is why the golden rule of OTPs is to wait at least two minutes between attempts; rushing only makes the process take longer in the end.
7. Contact support
If nothing works, contact in-app support. After it works, continue with creating your account.
If you receive an OTP you did NOT request, someone may be trying to access your account. Never share it — see security tips.
